California Passes Into Law Two New Bills (SB 973 and AB 979)

There are two new Bills recently signed into law in California that may have an impact on your organization.

Senate Bill 973 requires certain California employers to submit annual information on their employees’ pay data by gender, race and ethnicity to the state’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing starting March 31, 2021.

Assembly Bill No. 979 requires California-based publicly-held corporations to diversify their boards of directors with directors from “underrepresented communities” by December 31, 2021. This bill is similar to SB 826, which was signed into law in 2018 and required California-based publicly-held corporations to include women on their boards.
